VIRGINIA BEACH, VA –TASTE is thrilled to announce the grand opening of TASTE Ghent at 407 West 21st Street, in Norfolk, and its return to the Ghent neighborhood. The 6,000 square foot location features several new concepts including a Borjo Drinkbar, the Breakfast on 21st Menu and table delivery, and TASTE Ghent will of course also continue to offer all of the favorite fare Hampton Roads residents have come to expect and grown to love over the company’s 44-year history.

“Drawing inspiration from the unique character of the neighborhood, we strived to create a space that welcomes the community from morning to evening,” comments Jon Pruden, owner of TASTE. “This new TASTE concept will bring people together over coffee, food or even a glass of wine and contribute to the already vibrant culinary scene on 21st Street. We hope to once again be an integral part of the Ghent community and foster relationships among our neighbors and the surrounding business community.”

BORJO DRINKBAR – Inspired by Borjo Coffeehouse in Norfolk, which joined the TASTE family in 2016, the Borjo Drinkbar serves coffee, espresso drinks and other hand-crafted beverages throughout the day. In addition, the Drinkbar features 16 taps, with six rotating local beers, six varieties of kegged wine, nitro coffee, cold brew and locally-made kombucha. Guests can fill 32 and 64 ounce “to-go” growlers with beer or wine, or enjoy any of their favorite beverages in the Drinkbar’s soft seating area. Fresh squeezed juices and unique smoothie recipes are also served daily.

BREAKFAST ON 21ST – TASTE Ghent is serving an array of artisanal and unique breakfast items all day, every day. Focusing on local and seasonal ingredients, the menu offers signature breakfast sandwiches and create your own options. The bakery case displays housemade scones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, croissants and other sweet treats baked daily.

TABLE DELIVERY – TASTE Ghent offers a unique service model that allows guests the opportunity to sit back and relax while awaiting their order. Guests simply place their order at either the Borjo Drinkbar counter or the TASTE counter, and store associates will bring food and beverages directly to the table.

The simple, modern space at TASTE Ghent welcomes guests with plenty of indoor and outdoor tables and comfortable soft seating, featuring design elements from local artisans. Architect Robyn Thomas and general contractor Spacemakers, Inc., both based in Ghent, led the design and construction. The reclaimed wooden countertops were forged by Virginia Beach based Benevolent Design Co. Staff aprons were developed in collaboration with North End Bag Company. The interior space is enhanced by custom metal elements by Norfolk-based Metal Concepts. Works by local artists are displayed throughout the space, and with all TASTE locations, the menu and retail shelves prominently feature foods crafted by local producers and purveyors.

Still to come is an outdoor seating area that will remain under construction for the next several weeks. The patio will feature green walls of ivy that, in time, will provide privacy and a uniquely intimate gathering spot within this urban setting. “With a fire pit and variety of seating options, we’re hoping to provide a dynamic and inviting space for many occasions, including daily casual dining, private events and planned regular entertainment. Seasonally, two large garage doors will enable the outdoor and indoor spaces to be seamlessly combined,” said Pruden.

Complementing the new concepts, TASTE Ghent will offer the same traditional and seasonal menus available at all other TASTE locations, along with gelato, a retail market, to-go meals and catering items. The Ghent location is open Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 8:00pm, and from 7:00am to 8:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, with breakfast and cafe options available for dine in, to go and delivery.
